The book is separated into two distinct sections, "People and Policies" and "The Animals". In the first, Boneham discusses all aspects of starting a rescue group, from legalities to finding and working with volunteers. The second section is devoted to bringing the companion animal into the rescue organization, how to manage the animal, and how to locate a new home. Safety, health screening and behavior assessment are emphasized.
