DOGS IN CANADA
To seasoned dog enthusiasts, Anne Rogers Clark requires no introduction. Over the years, she's fondly been referred to as God but more often, simply as Annie On Dogs! Is a soft-covered compilation of short stories spanning well over 60 years. Simply put, it's a must-read book that will entertain and educate readers. Dog enthusiasts, both novice and veteran, will undoubtedly find her views informative, candid and often humorous. Annie has garnered many honours, such as the Mark L. Morris Lifetime Achievement Award given by Hill's Pet Nutrition, a three-time recipient of the Kennel Review Judge of the Year and Women of the Year awards and most recently, Writer of the Year Award for her Dogs in Review columns, Annie on .' To the novice exhibitor, entering Judge Annie's ring can be intimidating. Her tall, statuesque appearance and no-nonsense approach to judging can humble even the seasoned veteran. But seldom does anyone leave the ring feeling that they didn't get fair value for their dollar! Annie's book is no different. Exhibitors will reap the benefits of handling tips as she shares many humorous anecdotes on how to correctly bait or stack a dog. Judges will also appreciate her dry wit on standing endlessly for a show photo. Annie shares her wealth of experience, but also her fears. Hard to imagine that anything could frighten this icon, but there it is in black and white: Annie is human! Moments of uncertainty with regard to judging are depicted in several sections throughout the book. At the start of her judging career, she was fully cognizant of the fact that even thought she was s well-respected handler, she would not necessarily be a good judge. She admits, The intricacies of running a ring in an orderly manner and evaluating the entries that made sense to my judging process, was talent that was sadly lacking. Two particularly inspiring chapters portray her innermost feelings during her treatment for colorectal cancer. Past and Present' and Getting Back to Judging' depict her fears following her seven months' vacation at the John Hopkins Center where she underwent chemotherapy treatment. In her words, she was thrilled to be back but had some concerns about my ability to just pick up where I had left off. Always a student of the game, Annie prepared for this day as though it were her very first assignment. Annie On Dogs! Has something for everyone; judges, exhibitors, breeders and juniors will benefit from her experiences. This is a true gem enjoy! Barbara Heal Note: Anne Rogers Clark passed away Dec. 20, 2006.

"No list of canine classics would be complete without Anne Rogers Clark's distillation of a life in dogs, Annie On...Dogs! (Dogwise, 2002). If you have only one book on the dog game, this is the one. Get it, keep it and read it - often." Laurie Savoie
