Expanded Description:
Flatwork is about what happens between the obstacles. Your dog spends more time between the obstacles running with you on the flat than he does performing the obstacles. It's on the flat that you set up your dog's approach to the next obstacle, where you as handler do most of your job guiding the dog. Performing flatwork successfully requires excellent communication between dog and handler. Learn to develop a communication system with your dog as you teach him each maneuver with the distraction of obstacles. As you follow this training program, you will develop a set of cues and movements that indicate specific behaviors to the dog, and you will become aware of exactly what your body is really saying to your dog!

| My beginner Aussie and I are making connections, so I was looking for a book with exercises to improve our communications. I always ask what I did wrong -- this book is giving some great ideas on how to improve that connection and communication. I am already seeing some differences. |

this is a great little book for beginners like myself.
also, I found it very user friendly.
like many other dog lovers... I started agility to have fun with my dog and immediately became hooked.
my problem was that I couldn't communicate fast enough which obstacle my dog was to go to.
my dog, an austalian shepherd, would become very frustrated & start jumping at me.
this book helped to teach me about the importance of my body language.
my dog was so receptive to my new cues, that I had learned from this book, that it even carried over into our obedience classes.
I found the slow pace cue fabulous...!
I just figured my dog had one speed...fast.
it was a major boost to our runs.
I highly recommend this book for beginners & even teachers. |
