This book is meant for REAL people with REAL dogs!, July 1, 2009
Reviewer: e marey
Finally a trainer who seems to understand a dog's mind. This book cleared the 'fog' in my head from all the 'buzz words' of other's who claim to be trainers. I've started using Dale's system and already see huge improvement in my dog. It's working so well that I'm even thinking about entering an obedience competition. If you've been waiting for a step-by-step system that's easy to understand, fits into your busy schedule, is fun for dog and handler and works great...this is the book for you. Drop the 'fashion trainers' and all their 'buzz words'...Get real and get results with Let The Dog Decide.

A total waste of time and money, March 31, 2009
Reviewer: M. J. Graybill
This is one of the worst training books I've ever read!
Dale obviously doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to scientific training principles and contradicts himself.
On page 7, he has a section he calls Classical conditioning. He goes on to state how Classical conditioning is 'punishment based training' p.8. What?!
He tells the reader that to push a dog into a sit position and give them a cookie will cause the dog to become resentful. Yet later in his book on page 131 he gives the instructions to 'Say the word 'climb' and immediately PULL THE DOG UP ONTO THE BENCH WITH THE LEASH' (emphasis mine). He goes onto say you should INCREASE THE PRESSURE until the dog gets onto the bench and then release the pressure and say 'yes'. Make eye contact and feed and praise the dog.
Um, how does this differ from forcing the dog into a sit and giving them a cookie?
Take my word for it, there are many books out on the market that are much better written and actually make sense! Don't waste your time on this one.

WOW ! Heads and Tails Above the Rest, April 16, 2008
Reviewer: Penny
I've studied dogs and their behavior for 25 years. I've trained my dogs for obedience competition, search and rescue, agility and therapy work. But this new book is HEADS AND TAILS ABOVE any other material I've encountered! It's clear that this author has a deep understanding of dogs...and people. The program is simple, the explanations are easy to understand, the pictures and stories are very helpful AND IT ALL ACTUALLY WORKS WITH THE DOGS!!!! It's almost as if my dogs read the book with me! This is a MUST READ for all dog owners. Thank you Dale Stavroff for a fantastic book...I can't wait for your next one!
