| I owned this book before I owned a dog, and the methods were old then. The book seems to be oriented towards the older training methods of choke chains and 'showing the dog who's boss'. The section on dealing with aggression says 'Occasionally, for acts of aggression or rampant destruction, you may want to imitate a dog correction by shaking your dog side to side by his collar...' and 'Biting attempts should be corrected with a strong NO,NO, NO and a shaking, using collar and leash. If necessary, you should be able to hold the dog entirely off the ground by his collar and leash for your protection...Above all, he cannot bite you when he is off the ground.' Completely unnecessary and often counter-productive! |
