| DVD is missing the behavior handouts, September 5, 2010 |

| I evaluated this book/DVD combo to consider using it for my group classes. The DVD was supposed to contain the behavior handouts mentioned in the book, and it does not. I contacted the publisher, who acknowledged the error and is supposedly going to offer them on their website. The DVD content is useful, and the book is quite good, but it's important to note that the two were not developed in tandem to go with each other. In other words, it's not as though the DVD is a direct visual demo of everything in the book. I love Jean's work and I think this is a great resource (especially once you get the behavior handouts). |

| Jean Donaldson has created a simple, step by step program that anyone can follow. She breaks down each behavior for people to minimize lumping while training and really forces those of us who have a tendency to jump ahead in our training plans to stick to a regimented system. My only problem is that she mentions in the book and on the dvd that there are training sheets that should be included which I have been unable to locate. Perhaps I am not sufficiently techno-savvy to locate them but then again, they should be obvious so that the un-techy folks are not left in the dark. Otherwise the DVD is a great addition to really show people what they are looking to do with their dog She also addresses many of the common mistakes made when people are new to clicker training such as poor timing, inconsistent click/treat and pushing too far, too fast. A great beginner manners course to have alongside a class or on its own! |
