Price: $10.95 Add this item to my cart.

Expanded Description:

You may have unknowingly handed over the title of "Leader of the Pack" to your dog, and if so, it's time to take it back! Experienced animal behaviorists/authors demonstrate that dogs, like their wolf cousin, are essentially pack animals and need to establish dominance. Practical, straight-forward training shows how to take a firm lead and the specific steps required to eliminate the aggressive attitude of your dog. Learn how to take charge, why treating your dog as an equal can get both of you in trouble, why hitting your dog is futile, how to feed a food-aggressive dog, how to prevent your dog from jumping up, and much more!

Maybe for some..., July 23, 2005
Reviewer: Jessi
I have read this book, and have also met with the author regarding my own dog who had dominance/aggression issues. The tactics discussed worked very well with my Lithuanian Hound (we reverted to 'boot camp' when he decided that he was allowed on the couch), but merely caused MORE problems with my APBT. My APBT saw all of the tactics as direct threats and even threatened to bite my husband. I think that maybe with some dogs, dominance training might work very well, and may even be the only answer. But more so, I believe that a good relationship with mutual respect is the key to a well-behaved dog. Not pinch collars, head collars, drag lines, food, or doorways.

This book is the most recomended book ever for those at their last straw with a dog that seems untrainable. As a Veterinary Nurse, I deal with SO many behavioral problems (some so severe that the 'last good bye' choice is the only choice). This book tells dog owners just how to train, act/react, and most of all understand their dog in a logical and rational way. Those who disagree with this books methods are lucky enough to have a well behaved doggie... and this book is NOT for you.

I did not like this book at all! This book in my opinion will promote a combative and confrontational relationship between dogs and owners. There is no reason to set up a paranoid relationship like this book does. Just train the dog rather than believing your dog is out to get you. Give me a break! Instead, read The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson--do yourself and your dog a favor!
