Living with a Deaf Dog, August 7, 2008
Reviewer: Janet and Pat
We were in the process of adopting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Ruby colored)when the breeder confirmed that a litter mate was deaf. He asked us if we would take him in order to keep them together. They were 6 weeks old and we had a few weeks to get ready.Going to the internet was an eyeopener. I soon found out why we do not see deaf dogs. Through searching it was recommended that we teach him American Sign Language.I got to this site and found 'Living with a Deaf Dog' I can't tell you in words how it changed our outlook. There is hardly any guidance available out there. We brought our little guy home and everytime I look at him,now 7 months old,I can not imagine him not being alive and that we made the right decision. With his litter mate in tow, they just play, roughouse, and sleep on top of each other. We are working with a wonderful trainer, who supports our sign language and encouraged us to include them both in classes with other dogs.I bought a copy of this book for her too, since this is the first deaf puppy she has worked with. They have completed puppy class, beginners class and going into imermediates soon. Because of this book we had the confidence to pursue this new adventure. Hear ye Hear ye is another source. The hearing dog is now bi-lingual and they are terrific together. We chose not to pursue further testing as it was discussed in the Living with a Deaf Dog. Absolutely a great book. Thanks for writing it.........

Equally valuable to owners as well as instructors, February 5, 2007
Reviewer: Michol Langelett
As invaluable as this book is to actual owners of deaf dogs, it is also equally valuable to trainers to help the owners of deaf dogs. Chock full of tips, suggestions and insights from an author speaking from experience. This is one that gets dog-earred from all the use it will get when the challenge presents itself in the form of a hearing-impaired dog.

Thank You!, October 5, 2006

Thank you so very much for having 'Living with a Deaf Dog' available on your site. I am fortunate enough to have a job training dogs and had my first encounter with a deaf dog just recently. I was disheartened to find that there are very few resources available for working with deaf dogs. I must admit though after reading this book it is the only one I have recommended to my clients for purchase. The mix of insightful knowledge and true stories helps me arm my students with both the information and confidence they need to be successful. I can honestly say I feel I am a better trainer of both hearing and deaf dogs because I read this well written and truly informative book.
