Great Dog Owner Book, May 29, 2004
Reviewer: Lori D.
This book and Dunbar's After You Get Your Puppy book were recommended by our dog trainer/behaviorist. Before You Get Your Puppy is an excellent book that educates the potential dog owner as to how to find a good breeder and how to properly train their puppy the first day it comes home. This is a must read for the dog owner BEFORE they get a puppy. Training a puppy isn't just about house training your dog. You have to teach it how to behave in all kinds of situations and if you miss the window of opportunity to teach it correctly when it is still very young, it is far more challenging to reverse improper training.
If anyone wants to raise a well behaved and happy puppy, educating themselves beforehand, on how to be a good dog owner is crucial. |

Great Book!!!, March 27, 2003
Reviewer: Laura Rescoe
This book tells you what you need to know before you bring a new puppy into your house. It covers everything from choosing a breeder to the importance of early socialization, housetraining and chewtoy training. This as well as Ian's, After You Get Your Puppy are a must for prospective puppy owners. Personally I believe breeders should provide both of these books to everyone who purchases a puppy from them.
