Great, January 16, 2009

This is a necessary book for new puppy owners. Especially if they read it before getting a puppy, it will give them a great starting point in order to ease the transition and to prevent problems from starting in the first place.

After You Get Your Puppy, January 7, 2009
Reviewer: Erin
I read this book as part of a puppy obedience class curriculum and wasn't too fond of it for awhile. It has a GREAT section on bite inhibition that caused it to be worth the price. My biggest complaint (possibly only) is that it recommends allowing your dog a place to potty in the house (paper training). I completely disagree with this because from my experience and others' (including MANY trainers) allowing a puppy to soil in the house causes more issues in housetraining. Most people buying this book are probably getting it to help with their first puppy and it could cause major problems with housebreaking if the book is strictly followed.
Overall though, the book is decent. If you combine it with other books and knowledge on the subject it can be a great tool to have. |

As a professional trainer, I recommend this book to all of my new puppy owners. It is easy for even the novice dog/puppy owner to understand. The instructions are easy to follow. The sections on crate training and house breaking are golden. Also, I love Ian's writing style.
