Excellent Starter DVD, April 12, 2007
Reviewer: Molly
Although Train Your Dog - The Positive Gentle Method is still my favorite for new dog parents, there are several things about Brenda's DVD that make it uniquely important. She focuses on 'watch me' in everything, a step I originally overlooked with my adoptee and now...whoops...I have a dog who does what I ask but her attention is still all over the place. As Brenda mentions, other puppy videos tend to overlook the extreme importance of handling exercises. It is also wonderful that she has a docile puppy and an active puppy, which gives her the opportunity to emphasize the importance of remaining calm and adapting to the pup.
Things that would have pushed this DVD to 5 stars include using an older untrained dog in some exercises. She repeatedly states that she uses the same methods with older untrained dogs, but I assure you (I adopt adolescent dogs), you need to adapt certain things! For the scenes with her trained dogs, I would have loved her to show them in a household context, and how the lessons being learned are used day-to-day. And some of the sequences were too long and my attention wandered (in that way, I'm like my dog! Attention all over the place... ;). |

Wonderful!, January 23, 2006

I thought this DVD was easy to understand, practical and relevant. From instructors to pet owners, everyone will get at least something from this information and I'd be willing to bet that most people learn a lot. I liked how Brenda used two different puppies in her explanation, one that was 'easy' and one that was 'not so easy' to train. Thanks, Brenda, for such a great product!

Great Positive Method!, October 25, 2005

I was very excited to watch this DVD as I really idolize Brenda's methods. I have attended one of her seminars and her Aggression in Dogs book is my 'bible'. It was very helpful to be able to have a visual reference to many of the games and protocols that Brenda uses to train dogs. The only part where I am dissatisfied or confused on is that she did not go over using a No Reward Mark. From her other material, she really emphasises using a NRM, so I was surprised that she didn't even mention it in the video. Aside from that, I will refer back to this informative video many times. It shows you where beginning training exercises start off at, and then you see the finished result with three of Brenda's trained dogs. I look forward to viewing and reading more of Brenda's work.
