Summary: Over the past decade or so, researchers have learned so much about canine genetics, the differences and similarities between dogs and wolves, the evolution of the domestic dog, and the niche the dog came to inhabit in terms of its relationship with humans. And perhaps more importantly, the implications all this has had on the modern dog in today's society. This valuable new collection of articles provides the reader with the very latest research in these fields and should prove to be a wonderful resource for students of canine behavior.

| technical but readable, January 14, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Vicky Hagemeister |
This book consists of essays by some of the top researchers in the field of dogs. The essays are informative summaries of their given topics. The authors, although they use appropriate technical terms, write clearly enough that someone with a reasonable knowledge of science will be able to understand the information. If the essays had included specific examples, such as how regulator genes affect the expression of specific genes, the book would have been more accessible to the general reader.
However, the book is still throught-provoking and well worth the time of the serious student of dogs. By the time the reader has finished the book, he or she will have a good overview of why dogs behave the way they do. |
