This book is very old school and badly mis-titled.
Truth in complaining disclaimer: I read the 2nd edition, not this revision, but I can't imagine much has changed in the author's mind.
The author recommends a competition training program that takes a dog from nothing to utility in 9 months. She also uses methods that fall apart when proofed. The training in this book is not positive and not durable... the behaviors don't hold up to the test of time. And pushing that hard is a guarantee for dog stress.
If all you want to do is blast through the obedience program with weak scores so you can say you got a CD, CDX, or UD, then maybe this IS the book for you.
If you want durable training, quality outcomes, scores to be proud of, and a happy working dog, keep looking.
Otherwise, this book belongs on the same dusty shelf as William Koehler's books.
Much better recommendations: Check out the modern experts. Judi Byron 'Competition Obedience: a Balancing Act'

I couldn't wait to find a sucker to purchase my copy. |
