Summary: One of our best sellers, this is the most universal of all whistles. The advantage of using this whistle is you can vary the pitch to make any sound you feel comfortable with. Once you have learned how to make a variety of sounds, you can teach your dog what you want him to do on a sound of your choosing. The dog will respond a lot better to the sound of a whistle than a voice command because he can hear the whistle sound at a long distance as well as up close.

Expanded Description:

One of our best sellers, this is the most universal of all whistles. Professional dog trainers around the world use this whistle to teach their dogs many different activities. For example you can teach your dog to down, here, right, left, bite, jump, roll over or anything else you can teach him to do with a hand signal or voice command. Each one of these activities will have a different sound.

The experienced trainer knows how to use body language, word commands and sounds such as whistle commands to communicate with his dog. One of the most important methods is to use the various sounds that can be made with the variable pitch whistle, commonly referred to as the Sheppard’s whistle. The various whistle sounds can be used in conjunction with word command or hand signals. For example; down, up, here, there, bite, right, left and so forth. All commands can be translated into whistle sounds of you choice. The whistle commands are taught using the exact same method used to teach any word or hand signal. You tell or show the dog what he is doing and put a whistle sound with that motion or action until he completely understands the command.

The variable pitch whistle (Shepherd's whistle) is becoming very popular with all types of dog trainers and handlers. Police canine units are using the whistles to direct their dogs and have found that their dogs respond extremely well to the whistle commands (in addition, no one else knows what they are telling their dogs to do). Bird dog trainers are realizing that they can teach their dogs to work without hand signals. Search and rescue teams are using the whistle not only to command their dogs, but also to communicate with each other. Naturally, it is extremely popular with the herding dog crowd. ) Assorted colors, please let us choose.

1. Place the whistle open side forward between the teeth, with your lips at the front edge, and your tongue at the back of the solid edge of the whistle. The whistle has a hole on each side, so it doesn't matter which side is facing up or down.
2. Blow air down and through the top hole, almost like blowing over a pop bottle.
3. With minor adjustments of the whistle you should hear a tone. By using your tongue to regulate the air, various tone combinations can be produced. This allows you to move several dogs at one time.
