Expanded Description:
Hear Hear! goes through training a deaf dog step-by-step. It covers basic training that most pet dog owners require, including teaching the dog to sit, lay down, stand, walk nicely on a lead, stay, and to come back when ‘called’. It also covers important subjects like socialization and suggests ways of overcoming some of the most common unwanted behavior, like jumping up, barking and preventing your dog becoming destructive when left on its own. The moral issues of finding a home for a deaf dog are also discussed.
A must for all who are interested in basic training, whether the puppy is deaf or not. His expertise and enthusiasm are apparent in every page, and the photographs which illustrate the gestures to be used are excellent. -- Dog World
If anyone has a deaf puppy this book will be of tremendous value. -- Dog Training Weekly
What I hope is that every trainer in the world will read it. -- Professor Peter Neville

| Excellent Book, November 30, 2006 |
| Reviewer: J. Wiseman |
If you are living with a deaf dog and want to know where to begin in their training, then this is the book for you. Not only does it help you to understand behaviors exhibited by the deaf dog, but also how to channel them into positive experiences. The friendly, yet professional way the book is written allows you to associate with the author and her dog. I have read and re-read this book and each time it has helped with 'insight' into my pups behavior.
I highly recommend this book to the special folks that have a deaf dog as their companion. |

| A Valuable Resource, February 8, 2004 |

At 64 pages, Hear, Hear! is a quick read... and a great reference if you need it. I had no idea that many times deaf puppies are euthanized, because people think the puppies will not be trainable or that their quality of life will be too low. Eaton makes short shrift of such claims.
Eaton and his family acquired Lady, a Border Collie, who was born deaf, and as the photos show, he trained her to do a number of things. I was pleased to see that he used positive methods. He has advised other owners of deaf dogs, and this book grew out of that.
He says you'll need lots of patience but the rewards are great. |
