Here's what Pamela has to say about this book: What a great book! All dog owners will learn something from this book; especially those with dogs they feel are difficult to train. My favorite thing about this book is how easy Jane Killion makes training fun. I learned to understand how the "Pigs Fly" dog thinks. I think you will truly enjoy this book. Happy Reading! |

ANIMALS IN TRANSLATION: USING THE MYSTERIES OF AUTISM TO DECODE ANIMAL BEHAVIOR
by Temple Grandin
Item: DTB826
One of the world's most celebrated animal scientists merges a lifetime of study with her extraordinary perceptions as an autistic person in a groundbreaking book that revolutionizes the understanding of how animals think and feel. Temple was one of the most popular speakers at the 2004 APDT Conference.
Price: $15.00
|
Here's what Larry has to say about this book: This has to be one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. Temple Grandin, who I had the honor of meeting at the APDT conference in Denver a few years ago, is what is termed a "high functioning autistic." You would never know it to meet her. Her ability to perceive the world the way animals do opens up a whole new perspective on animal behavior, including that of dogs. Whether you are a trainer or not, I don't know how anyone could not enjoy this book if they are the least bit interested in animal behavior. I highly recommend it!

HOW TO RAISE A JEWISH DOG
by Ellis Weiner & Barbara Davilman, (The Rabbis of Boca Raton)
Item: DTB962
(This book is a work of humor, and the people, places, and animals in it are all used fictitiously.)
Look out, monks. Step aside, whisperer. Rabbi Monica and Rabbi Alan show you how, step by step, to use guilt, shame, passive aggression, sarcasm, and Conditional Unconditional Love to create an unbreakable bond with your dog.
"The Rabbis" have been training dogs - and their owners - for twenty years. Now they bring the fruits of their vast experience to dog owners everywhere.
Price: $12.99
|
Here's what DJ has to say about this book: There are so many great books at Dogwise, it was hard to narrow it down to one! I went with the “hilariously funny” and “highly entertaining” slant. (I also recognized several of my commands.) |

Here's what Ashley has to say about this book: My favorite book (which was a tough decision!) is probably Shaping Success by Susan Garrett. Though written specifically for agility enthusiasts, this book really touches base with anyone who trains their dogs for a competitive environment. Shaping Success tells the story of Buzz, a very active young Border Collie. Not only does this book cover all of Buzz’s accomplishments and disappointments, but it gives many positive training ideas along the way. All the troubleshooting that the author did with Buzzy is clearly explained and she defines the theory behind her solutions well. A+! |

WINTERDANCE
by Gary Paulsen
Item: DSL123
The fine madness of running the Iditarod based on a first person account of an amateur sled dog driver. Captures the beauty and danger of the seventeen day, 1180 mile ordeal.
Price: $15.00
|
Here's what Bill has to say about this book: I am the dog show booth guy for Dogwise. I travel around the country setting up our display of books at about 40 dog shows a year. I am often asked about my favorite book, and I have a ready answer - Winterdance by Gary Paulson. This is the true story of a novice who decided to run the Iditarod. It is a great way to learn about the race and about sled dogs, but what I like the most is that it is hilarious. When I recommend it to people, they almost always look me up at a future show and say they agree that it is a great book! |

POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES: LOVE YOUR DOG, TRAIN YOUR DOG
by Pat Miller
Item: DTB771
A complete dog training, puppy raising, problem solving, and basic health guide. Written as a series of columns in “Whole Dog Journal”, Positive Perspectives gives you information on day-to-day living with dogs in small easily understood “bites”. For puppy as well as adult dog owners.
Price: $19.95
|
Here's what Kristy has to say about this book: I truly enjoyed reading Pat Miller's book Positive Perspectives. It is a simple and concise training book for the novice trainer/owner. I focused on Chapter 31, which discusses kids and dogs and how to introduce a new human baby into the pack. Pat's book is a great read full of useful information for anyone. She gives helpful tips that I would not have thought of to help make the transition a smooth process. Her positive methods and her idea of dealing with the problem before it happens made that transition as easy as possible. |
