by N/A
Item: K9X261
Protect your pooch in style with their own bright, LED safety light, visible up to half a mile. Assorted Colors, Our choice.
Price: $3.95
|
Here's what Helen has to say about this book: Keeping your pets safe is top priority (especially when they're walking with the grandkids). With the blinkers, I know that cars will see the dogs (and kids) well ahead of the time and distance needed to slow down or stop. They're great for keeping track of them at night. |

ANIMALS IN TRANSLATION - USING THE MYSTERIES OF AUTISM TO DECODE ANIMAL BEHAVIOR
by Temple Grandin
Item: DTB826
One of the world's most celebrated animal scientists merges a lifetime of study with her extraordinary perceptions as an autistic person in a groundbreaking book that revolutionizes the understanding of how animals think and feel. Temple was one of the most popular speakers at the 2004 APDT Conference.
Price: $15.00
|
Here's what Larry has to say about this book: This has to be one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. Temple Grandin, who I had the honor of meeting at the APDT conference in Denver a few years ago, is what is termed a "high functioning autistic." You would never know it to meet her. Her ability to perceive the world the way animals do opens up a whole new perspective on animal behavior, including that of dogs. Whether you are a trainer or not, I don't know how anyone could not enjoy this book if they are the least bit interested in animal behavior. I highly recommend it!

A SMALL FURRY PRAYER - DOG RESCUE AND THE MEANING OF LIFE (DAMAGED)
by Steven Kotler
Item: AN347
TEAR ON THE FRONT COVER. While dog rescue is one of the largest underground movements in America, it is also one of the least understood. This insider look at the cult and culture of dog rescue begins with Kotler's personal experience working with an ever-peculiar pack of dogs and becomes a much deeper investigation into exactly what it means to devote one's life to the furry and the four-legged.
Price: $24.00
|
Here's what Jon has to say about this book: A Small Furry Prayer (by Steven Kotler) is currently one of my favorites and was a pleasant surprise to read. It is a story of a dog rescuer's personal journey, like the books “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” or the “River Why?” and it is packed with fascinating information with tons of references that the author has researched in his quest to quench his curiosity and thirst to understand more about dogs and the human-canine bond. One theory the author found in a paper by Wolfgang Scheidt from the University of Vienna suggests that our relationship with canines goes back much further than we currently believe. In fact the qualities and traits we consider to be human (i.e. patience, loyalty, cooperation, devotion, etc.) were learned from ancestral wolves. These traits are not prevalent among primates today and were likely not prevalent among our early hominid ancestors who occupied the Eurasian steppe with the wolves over 100 thousand years ago. It is theorized that after observing the wolves’ social herding and hunting methods that the early hominids quickly adopted these highly successful strategies and associated traits. I love this notion that what we hold as human qualities and traits is adopted from canine qualities and traits and is a contributing factor to our deep connection with dogs.
This book will entertain you, challenge you, and make you think.
