..overwhelming sadness doesn't quite describe it. She became ill Monday morning. Vet appt on Tuesday afternoon. The late afternoon and evening brought quick decline and we said goodbye a little after midnight. She had been started on antibiotics and was receiving fluids for presumed pancreatitis. Would have been her 3rd attack since July. Our little girl is struggling to understand her grief serves to remind her just how great the love of Maggie was.

I miss absolutely every single thing about her.

Omg, I am so very sorry to read this. It's hard enough to lose our sweet friends, but even harder when it's unexpected. I wish I had some profound words which would help to make it all make sense - I don't. Know that you're in my thoughts. My heart breaks for you and your family. RIP sweet Maggie.

I am so sorry to read this. They could not leave such pain if they had not given so much joy. It was an honor to have known her, even at a distance. Susan

Thank you all for the well wishes. It has honestly been pretty challenging for the entire family even with our busy schedules. We're getting through it although I'm not so sure about Jayden

Are you going to get another dog? When my girls were young we lost a boxer to bloat and my youngest couldn't even go to school for a couple of days. A new dog made all the difference in the world for them. Then 13 years later when we lost Roxie I thought we could wait a while before we got another dog, but we only lasted two weeks. I don't know if we will ever stop missing the ones we have lost but I know we would be so much more miserable if we didn't have Jasper and Lola now. They have helped us so much. My youngest who is now grown adopted my last foster a few months ago. After growing up with a dog it's too depressing for her to live without one in her home.

The short answer is yes, we will get another dog but now is not the right time. Jayden is our Great Dane and is elderly. She may or may not do well with a new dog but it's not something we'd like to test. This is our busiest time of the year with both kids wrapping up the school year and they play softball/baseball. We have to travel with the older one a little as well for baseball. I currently have one of the world's worst managers (grrrrr) so I'm not getting the single vacation day for this month that I requested back in February.

Thanks again for the well wishes

I didn't realize that Jayden is a senior so you are right, you just don't know how she would do and you certainly would want to take your time to find the right match too. I remember how busy it gets when you have kids in sports - especially when they have conflicting schedules and you need to be in two places at the same time.
