Some news to be aware of, in case anyone isn't:

Merrick bought Castor and Pollux - http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/merrick-pet-care-inc-acquires-castor--pollux-natural-petworks-expands-further-into-super-premium-pet-food-segment-147636685.html

Diamond Recall expanded - info. on Dog Food Project site and link to Diamond' site: http://www.diamondpet.com/information/

new alert I found on DogAware about reports of illness after ingesting sweet potato chews from China and also other items <besides the chicken jerky>:

".....It's not just chicken jerky -- now dried sweet potato treats imported from China appear to be making dogs ill as well. There is even speculation that the problems may extend to pork treats and cat treats from China as well. "

Thanks for the alert! I will put this info on Facebook for all my friends who have dogs - and there are quite a few who do!

Sure! glad you're putting it out there!
as a side note...hubby <not a dog person> saw this and thought each bit of info. was related - while it's all "health stuff", they are separate "bits", in case there was any confusion.

sigh...Foster and Smith is one of the places from which you can get those sweet potato chews. I haven't bought anything for the dogs to eat from that place in years, after calling to ask and determining that much of their treats and chews are from China.

My husband won't even buy toys that are made in China! At least it's easy enough to make sweet potato treats. I just microwave one and then slice it up in bite size
pieces. My dogs love them.

Food-wise, that is so much harder than most people realize. Particularly when you start dealing with larger commercial food products it can get very hard to trace where the constituent ingredients originate - even for the companies that make the finished product.

Our food systems are well and truly effed.
