Expanded Description:
The book, The Pit Bull Placebo: The Media, Myths and Politics of Canine Aggression, explores and reveals how our views and beliefs about canine aggression have changed over the last 150 years and how our perceptions about the nature and behavior of dogs has been influenced and shaped by persons and organizations who often times disseminate information about dog attacks which is tailored to further an agenda unrelated to the improvement of the human/dog bond. The Pit Bull Placebo examines actual cases of severe dog attacks during the last 150 years—the circumstances, the individual dogs involved, the victims, and our interpretations of these events—in an attempt to offer a reasoned and balanced perspective on the behavior of dogs and the critical role humans play in the management and treatment of our canine companions.

| Fantastic Book, January 22, 2009 |
| Reviewer: SWalker |
This book was such a great resource on how the media has shaped our views of dogs and dog attacks over the years.
The author uses newspaper reports of dog attacks, starting with some of the first printed here in the USA, and continues all the way up through current day. These reports, along with well documented statistics help to show why the general public feels the way it does today about specific breeds like 'pitbulls', GSDs, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Bloodhounds, Newfoundlands, and others.
A fascinating read for anyone who is involved with a BSL affected breed. Also a great way to understand how to read reports about dog attacks. |

| Excellent Must Read, September 1, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Karen Moulton |
This is an excellent book. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the truth about how myths and media have affected public view and caused the villification of numerous breeds of dogs over the years. Newfoundlands, Collies, Dobermans, Rotties, Bloodhounds, Bull Terriers, and now Pit Bulls have been unfairly targeted as evil super killers.
This book explores the history of the media reports and breeds affected over the years. Key points are the increased popularity of 'guarding' breeds who are then owned by substandard or violence prone humans who then use and abuse these dogs.
Rarely is a dog attack unprovoked. If you look at the whole picture you will usually find: abuse, lack of socialization, dogs chained up, unneutered, allowed to roam freely, teased, tortured and otherwise failed by humans.
It is time that we put the responsibility for dog attacks squarely where it belongs. We need to hold people responsible for the behavior of their dogs instead of blaming the dog and in turn banning breeds of dogs.
A must read for all |

| A dose of truth and reality., July 31, 2007 |
| Reviewer: Jennifer Shryock |
| This is a must read for anyone interested in learning the truth behind the various stories hyped up by media. Delise identifies a pattern over the years of our human need for drama through particular targeted breeds. It is time to step back and look at the human element and intentions of choice of dog. |
