More than just a little dog book, March 28, 2014
Reviewer: Christy Munden
While this book was meant for the small dog, I found that there is great training ideas for soft or shy dogs of any size. I really loved the fact that while both authors have different ideas on how to train something they can agree there is not always one right way and encourage you to try both ideas.

GREAT BOOK!! Will be recommending it to all my dog friends.

Not just for Small Dogs, April 11, 2012
Reviewer: OTCHMolly
I got this book when I starting training a Papillon, after many years of just Shelties. I was a bit miffed when the book opens by implying that Shelties don't count as small dogs! But having campaigned a 13' Sheltie to an OTCH, I really appreciated much of what the authors said.

The overall methods of balanced training apply to dogs of all sizes, and the book is worth reading even if your dog is 30' tall and 100+ pounds! But added to this general training information are wonderful hints for success with the little guys. Having learned 35+ years ago to 'always start heeling with your left foot' it was enlightening to consider starting with the right...so the little dog doesn't appear to be left behind on that first step.

Overall a worthwhile read for the trainer who wants to be competitive...no matter the size of your dog.

This book is great for hints and tips for training small dogs, but most of the ideas presented in this book will work for larger dogs also. It gives many examples of how obedience is such a different sport when viewed from a small dog's perspective, and why it is so important to keep this in mind while training.
