Weekly Update from Dogwise: Structure in Action by Pat Hastings |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
We are pleased to announce the arrival of a long anticipated new book by Pat Hastings. Structure in Action - The Makings of a Durable Dog should join the ranks of Pat's other best selling titles as a key reference book for dog fanciers, judges, breeders and anyone who cares about the soundness and health of purebred dogs. Pat's new book goes beyond just describing the various structural components of the dog as it explains how variations in structure can impact a dog's ability to do what he is bred for, his ability to perform and his health. If you are like many of us who, attending our first dog show, wondered why judges spent so much time examining certain parts of each dog - this book will provide the answer. While each breed differs, having the proper chest size and shape or shoulder lay-back or length of leg can be critical, and Pat carefully reviews the risks to a dog whose structure is not correct. The book is well illustrated and filled with detailed photos that will help you visualize each part of the dog. Congratulations to Pat and her co-authors Wendy Wallace and Erin Rouse for this major achievement and wonderful addition to the literature on dogs.
If you are interested in exploring the subject of structure and anatomy more, we have a large number of books on the subject - click here for a link to the complete list. One of the most useful and highly thought of books in this subject is K-9 Structure & Terminology by Ed Gilbert and Thelma Brown. This is our Book of the Week through January 26th, 20% off at $19.96. This is currently the most complete review of structural elements and terminology of the dog on the market today and includes chapters on muscles/tendons, gait, and posed examinations in addition to detailed information on skeletal structure from head to tail. Another classic that needs to be in the reference library of any dog fancier.
Other anatomy and structure titles to point out include:
Our product feature this week is the Pogo Plush- Large & Pogo Plush - Small. The patent-pending design provides a unique bounce-back action that dogs prefer over traditional stuffed plush toys. They are stuffing free, so there's no mess if your dog likes to destroy plush toys. The toys are built with inner rubber scaffolding and free-floating squeakers that will give your dog hours of fun. Recommended by The Whole Dog Journal!
