Many of you have discovered that there are a number of great bargains in our Clearance section. If you haven't, just click the tab at the top of our home page and you will be sent to a long listing of items that are temporarily on sale or are on clearance status.

Now here's something you may not know. The book industry is one of the few where retailers (bookstores) normally have return privileges, especially if they purchase from one of the major book wholesalers. If a book doesn't sell or they ordered too many, they can return them to the wholesaler who then can return them to the publisher. This is a very contentious issue in the industry. Many believe that these return rights actually make many players in the industry sloppy in terms of ordering and it could be argued ultimately adds to the costs of books - but we digress. Since Dogwise is now a publisher, we do get returns from the book industry from time to time. While these books are not supposed to come back damaged, since they have gone from us to a wholesaler to a bookstore back to the wholesaler and back to us (sheesh!) they inevitably are a bit dinged up. Voila - that is the secret and the benefit for you. We have a fair number of what we term damaged books on our clearance pages, but if you see they are from Dogwise Publishing in almost every case the dings are very very slight, just enough to keep us from selling them at full price. You get a book that is in almost pristine condition at a discount. The top two books shown here to the right are examples.

More secrets - we have a policy here that when hardback books go to paperback, we lower the price of the hardback to that of the paperback (the lower two books are examples). If we get stuck with an older edition of a book, we put the older ones on clearance. And finally, every January after our dog show operation makes a stop in Wenatchee, we pull out all of the Breed Calendars from the dog show stock and put them on sale at more than 50% off the original price. So you can expect to see a variety of calendars show up on the site by the end of this week. Just search by breed and see if we have a few left in case you didn't get one from us earlier.
