The 20th edition of the AKC's Complete Dog Book arrived at our warehouse yesterday. Updated only once every 6-8 years, this bible of purebred dog standards has been eagerly awaited by many - we know because we have been asked when it would be available by hundreds of folks the past few months. With all the changes that have gone on recently and the large number of additional breeds now recognized by the AKC (ever heard of a Beauceron, Plott, or Redbone Coonhound?), this reference is a must for dog show enthusiasts, judges, or anyone who wants a detailed encyclopedia and updated standards for purebred dogs eligible to compete in AKC dog shows in the US.

Also new this week is the latest in the Sounds Good CD series from Terry Ryan. The CD's are designed to help you desensitize your dog to sounds or noises that many find scary or make them uncomfortable. Babies make sounds that can be new and different from what a dog has experienced before as well as being rivals for attention. To the extent a dog can be "prepared" for these sounds before the baby arrives, the better the chance dog and baby will coexist peacefully.

When your baby grows up, we have a great new kids book he or she will enjoy called Dogs of the World Dot-to-Dot. As the title implies, this is a dot-to-dot coloring book featuring breeds from around the world. While we do not carry a lot of children's books, this is a great educational tool as well as being fun and very reasonably priced at only $5.95.
