Weekly Update from Dogwise: Memoirs and Dogs |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
For many dog people, memoirs rank right up there with dog books in terms of reading choices. Especially when the author of the memoir is involved with dogs or other companion animals. And especially if the author's life is so interesting that a movie is made about it! Popular author Temple Grandin was just so recently honored with a movie released last weekend on HBO (sorry we did not know in advance, but these are often repeated or will come out on DVD). Titled simply "Temple Grandin," the movie explores her younger life dealing with her autism and her unique perspective and appreciation it gives her in understanding animals. As you may know, Temple has written two very popular books (Animals in Translation and Animals Make Us Human) recently, but you may not know that years before she wrote a much more autobiographical book called Thinking in Pictures. Whether or not you get to see the movie, "Pictures" is a wonderful memoir and is our Book of the Week with a 20% discount - now only $12.00.
If you like the memoir angle and want to learn more about the life of authors in addition to their dog knowledge, here are some more choices that are at least part autobiographical:
Our product feature this week is the Pogo Plush- Large & Pogo Plush - Small. The patent-pending design provides a unique bounce-back action that dogs prefer over traditional stuffed plush toys. They are stuffing free, so there's no mess if your dog likes to destroy plush toys. The toys are built with inner rubber scaffolding and free-floating squeakers that will give your dog hours of fun. Recommended by The Whole Dog Journal!
Newest books & products:
- Bad to the Bone by Cara Shannon. Anyone dealing with aggressive dogs, shelter dogs, or investigating dog bites will find this DVD invaluable. Cara explains the dog-human and dog-dog bite hierarchies with thorough descriptions of the bites, mitigating and aggravating factors (and other factors) using photographs, charts, case studies and analysis notes.
- Talking Sheepdogs by Derek Scrimgeour. Accompanied by explanatory text, color photographs and illustrations, Talking Sheepdogs guides the reader from the beginner stage, to effective working sheepdogs, right through to the supreme championship level using "The Scrimgeour method of sheepdog training."
