Weekly Update from Dogwise: The News from New York |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
We are back from New York having attended the Pet Writer's Conference, the Dog Writer's Association Annual Meeting and some of that little dog show they have there in Madison Square Garden (!). The weather cooperated - no snow at least, temperatures ranged from below 20 degrees to close to 60 on the last day there - warm enough to picnic in Central Park.
The Pet Writer's Conference was our chance to meet potential authors and we came away with some good prospects for new books - also got to do some networking with other publishers. They tell us that many people are writing dog related memoirs, hoping to achieve fame with the next Marley and Me. We generally don't highlight memoirs, but we have several interesting ones in stock we should mention:
Another book that was recommended to us at the conference was Physics for Dogs - A Crash Course in Catching Cats, Frisbees, and Cars by John-Andrew Sandbook and Dara Flynn. We have it in stock and it is quite funny!
The Dog Writer's Conference was focused on the annual awards for best writing in several categories. We are very pleased that Dog Show Judging - the Good, Bad and the Ugly by Chris Walkowicz (and published by Dogwise) won two awards - Best Humor book (the book is sprinkled with humor but you will learn what it takes to be a judge) and the Ellsworth Howell award for best book relating to the sport of dogs. Double win means a second week in a row as our Book of the Week - 20% off at $10.36. Another notable winner was the best breed book - Jeffrey Pepper's The Golden Retriever - an Authoritative Look at the Breed's Past, Present and Future. This book is really a must have for Golden fanciers.
Check out our new line of training bags we carry by Doggone Good. These are great training bags for the professional or avid dog enthusiast! Roomy main compartment; magnetic closure with optional cord pull; inside pocket with velcro closure for high value treats; waste bag dispenser; two side pockets for clickers, whistles, small leads, etc.; zippered back compartment for cell phones, credit cards, keys, etc.; belt clip and belt loops for multiple ways to wear; D-ring attachment; roomy front pocket with velcro closure; even a front window for a photo of your dog and/or contact info or club logo.
Newest books & products:
- Complete Care for Your Aging Dog by Amy Shojai. Filled with heartwarming stories, the latest developments in geriatric veterinary care, age-defying tips, and comprehensive reference materials, this is the definitive "Old Dog Bible" to turning back the clock on aging-and keeping senior dogs vital, happy, and active throughout their golden years.
- Pugs - Barrons Dog Bible with DVD by Dan Rice. It presents an informal dog training course for new owners, describing methods for house training, walking dogs on a leash, and teaching obedience to hand signals and vocal commands.
