Weekly Update: DWAA 2014 Winners

Dear Dogwise Customer,

We just spent several really really cold days in New York to enjoy the sights and attend the Dog Writers Association Annual Awards Banquet at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Quite a mad house this year - full of show dogs and their handlers from Westminster and the NBA All Star Game going on across the street at Madison Square Garden. And it was about 10 degrees with wind! Three of the books that we carry were winners of the Maxwell Award given out to honor the leading books in several categories:

  • What The Dog Knows - The Science and Wonder of Working Dogs by Cat Miller. This book won the award for the best reference book as well as the "Best Book" award sponsored by Dogwise. A fascinating look at how and why the amazing things that working dogs can do.
  • Dog Food Logic by Linda Case. We were very pleased that this book published by Dogwise won the best Health and General Care award. Linda's book takes a scientific approach to choosing the right food for your dog and ways to evaluate all the theories and myths that abound about dog food.
  • Dog Sports Skill, Book 2: Motivation by Denise Fenzi and Deborah Jones. No big surprise here as Book 1 won the award last year as well as best Training and Behavior book. Congrats to Denise and Deb for back to back wins and producing such great books for those who compete in dog sports.

This week we are featuring our Go-Frrr Fetch Ball and Go-Frrr Fetch Ball Easy Launcher Handle this set is quick and easy to use and the ball floats making this a great product for training working retrievers or just playing at the park. They are marked down 30%, limited to stock on hand.

Just a reminder that our Dogwise Publishing back-list sale is still going on - thirteen older great books priced at only $3.00 or $5.00 from now until the end of February.

Newest books & products:

  • The Social Dog: Behavior and Cognition by Juliane Kaminski and Sarah Marshall-Pescini. Dogs are being studied in comparative cognitive sciences as well as genetics, ethology, and many more areas. As the number of published studies increases, this book aims to give the reader an overview of the state of the art on dog research, with an emphasis on social behavior and socio-cognitive skills.
  • Canine Nutrigenomics - The New Science of Feeding Your Dog for Optimum Health by W. Jean Dodds, DVM & Diana Laverdure. Nutrigenomics is the new science of how diet affects gene expression at the cellular level, creating vibrant health or chronic disease. Optimum health begins in the cells—and this book shows you how to achieve it for your dog!
  • My Dog Has Epilepsy But Lives Life to the Full! by Gill Carrick. Just like humans, dogs can suffer from epilepsy. It's often described as an "electrical storm" in the brain, when millions of nerve cells fire together resulting in a seizure. These fits can vary from mild to severe, and can be dangerous for the dog and distressing for the owner to witness. Thankfully, there's a lot that can be done to help dogs with the disease live a full and happy life.
