Weekly Update: Puppy books for dog trainers and enthusiasts

Dear Dogwise Customer,

The number of puppy training books - both advanced and pretty basic - continue to expand. We have a large assortment, of course, but it's not always easy to know which are oriented to the general public and which are more suited for trainers and dog enthusiasts who plan to compete with their dogs. While the following featured books are in no way a complete list, here are some puppy books that make more sense for trainers and enthusiasts:

  • The Official Ahisma Dog Training Manual by Grisha Stewart. Not just for puppies, but filled with great ideas that trainers may want to incorporate into their own puppy training classes.
  • Puppy Start Right by Kenneth and Debbie Martin. While a very motivated puppy owner could navigate this great resource book, once again trainers can incorporate a lot of the techniques, socialization ideas and foundation training exercises into their work. Excellent clicker training advice as well.
  • AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy by Mary Burch. While written for the average dog owner, teaching S.T.A.R puppy classes represent a good business opportunity for trainers. This book will tell you all you need to know to take advantage of this program.
  • The Focused Puppy by Deb Jones and Judy Keller. A training system oriented toward training puppies who are future performance dogs.
  • Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program by Leslie McDevitt. Another puppy training book designed to build a successful performance dog.

Last call for calendars, which we have marked down to just $3.00. We will be donating them to our local humane society next week.

Free Susan Garrett Webinar:
Dogwise will be promoting Susan Garrett's upcoming Recallers 4.0 Seminar. To get a taste of what this seminar is all about, Susan is doing a number of free webinars. In the first webinar Susan will talk about two approaches to changing your dog's behavior. Managing your dog's behavior vs. Inspiring your dog's behavior. Susan will share her secrets on how to INSPIRE your dog to do exactly what you want to do, when you want him to do it. Click here to sign up for the free webinar.
