Most of us dog lovers (and just all animal lovers as well) believe that there is really something to what is termed the human-animal bond. Being around our pets makes us feel good - and its pretty apparent it works that way for our pets as well. Up until now, you would think that this bond was just mental. However, there is now research that shows that it goes beyond just good feelings, that in fact there is an actual chemistry of attraction and attachment between mammals. Meg Olmert's fascinating book Made for Each Other explores the biological underpinnings of the human-animal bond, casting a whole new light on this subject. This is one of the more interesting new books we have seen in a long time.

Following up on this same subject is a new book from Irene Pepperberg titled Alex & Me. Many of you are familiar with The Alex Studies, Pepperberg's ground breaking study of animal cognition and communication. Now go beyond the science with the background story of Irene's work with the grey parrot Alex and how the two of them formed a deep bond in the process.
