Weekly Update from Dogwise: Kathy Sdao's Plenty in Life is Free

Dear Dogwise Customer,

Dogwise Publishing is pleased to announce the publication of Plenty in Life is Free - Reflections on Dogs, Training and Finding Grace by Kathy Sdao. While Kathy has been a very popular speaker at conferences and seminars for years, Plenty in Life is Free is her first book. We began encouraging Kathy to write a book a couple years ago because (1) we knew she had lots of interesting things to say, and (2) we got a little tired of people asking us "does Kathy Sdao have any books?" and having to say "no, darn it." Kathy is recognized as one of the top clicker trainers in the world (see her many DVDs on the subject), so we knew once she agreed to write a book that at a minimum we would get a top notch training book. While we got that, we also got a lot more and that is why we think this is such an incredible book, one that will make you readers think carefully about the way you train and your relationship with your dogs. Part memoir, Kathy shares with you experiences she has had over the years and how they led her to question many "sacred cows" both in life and in dog training. In life, it meant learning you could have great curly hair without shampoo! In dog training, it meant that being a "feeder" is preferable to being a "leader." Ultimately this manifests itself in a training philosophy and style which emphasizes developing partnerships in which humans and dogs exchange reinforcements and continually cede the upper hand to one another. We believe that this book will be one of the most influential books on dog training - and life - you will ever read.

John Rogerson's The Dog Vinci Code is our Book of the Week through March 14th. While we have had this book in stock for more than a year now, we often still get the same question that we got about Kathy Sdao - "do you have any books by John Rogerson?" John is a very popular seminar presenter and travels widely as a speaker. Many years ago we were able to get three of his books from England on a sporadic basis and then lost our source of supply. Fortunately (along with his Instructor Manual) we do now have this one book which covers the gamut of John's views on behavior and training. So for you Rogerson fans, here is a chance to buy his book at a 20% discount, only $10.36 for the coming week.

Our Ebook selection continues to grow. New this week is: EBOOK: A Breeder's Guide to Genetics - Relax, It's Not Rocket Science.

Newest books & products:
  • The Art and Science of Canine Behavior DVD by Patricia McConnell. Through slides, videos and lecture, viewers will develop an enhanced understanding of the importance of genetics and development, along with new discoveries about play behavior, social behavior and canine cognition. Combining interesting discoveries and practical applications, the day is designed to bring our knowledge about all things “dog” to a higher level.
  • Barron's Dog Training Bible by Andrea Arden. Whether you have just acquired a dog or are planning to get one, this book will start you off on the right track. Training expert Andrea Arden points out how important it is for you to understand canine psychology as well as your dog's learning capacity as necessary prerequisites to effective training.
  • Show Dog - The Charmed Life and Trying Times of a Near-Perfect Purebred by Josh Dean. The book follows Jack as he matures over the course of a year, from still-improving adolescent to seasoned adult show dog. We get to know him and the people around him--his owner, his handler, his breeder--to experience what it's like to own a show dog and to train one. And we come to appreciate him for what he is, a lovable and intelligent house pet--albeit one with a highly unusual occupation.

Thanks from all us at Dogwise.
