Weekly Update from Dogwise: Carting With Your Dog |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
While we have always had a great selection of dog books, the one subject that has always been a black hole in our inventory concerns carting with dogs. In fact, taking a poll of our dog show booth folks, we figure that we have been asked for a book on carting at shows and have not really had the right book to offer customers more than any other subject over the years (bringing to mind the old saying "If I had a dollar for every time..."). Well, after all this time, Dogwise Publishing is pleased to announce the arrival of Carting with Your Dog - Positive Draft Training for Fun and Competition by Laura Waldbaum. If you have ever wanted a book that will teach you what you need to have a dog pull a cart - whether just around the yard, in a parade, or in formal competitions - this book is just the ticket. While you might think at first that pulling a cart should be a piece of cake, it is in fact an activity that requires a significant amount of training for most dogs. In order to pull a cart safely and successfully, the dog needs to be able to perform many behaviors on cue (moving forward and backward, left and right turns), become comfortable with strange, new equipment (harnesses and the cart itself), and be in good enough condition to pull what can be a lot of weight over a variety of terrains. Not to mention being able to handle the distractions of crowds at parades and the challenges presented to both dog and handler at drafting competitions. Laura brings years of experience in carting and a positive, step-by-step training and conditioning philosophy to the subject. And we thank her for allowing us to never again have to tell another customer we don't have a book on carting!
