The world of books and book publishing is always changing. In our twenty plus years of being in business, we have witnessed many changes - from the rise of the big chain bookstores, to the demise of many small niche publishers, to the incredible changes brought on by the success of marketing books on the internet. We are now at the beginning of a new trend - the growing popularity of E-Books - which has the potential to bring fundamental changes to the way books are bought and sold. While we think the physical book will be around for years to come - there can be a real connection between a book and book lover - we know the E-Book is likely to take over an increasing portion of the market over the next few years. So we are working hard to provide you E-Book alternatives for the books we have the rights to, but want to make sure we take this on prudently and not get ahead of or get stuck behind the new technology (which seems to be changing every day!).
Here is our plan. We are currently working on developing E-Book versions of a number of our published books. We have been waiting on this a bit in that we wanted our E-Books to be as flexible as possible in terms of working on all of the major electronic book readers (such as the Kindle and the new I-Pad) and on your own computer if you do not have a reader device. This gives you more flexibility and options than being tied to just one device. During this past week we put an E-Book version of one of our best selling books up on the site: Raw Dog Food E-Book (a book on how to manage and prepare raw dog food diets) by Carina MacDonald. If you follow this link, you will see at the top of the page instructions and further links about how to get this book onto whatever reading device you own. Given workloads here (we are still churning out new physical books), it may be a few months before we get a wide selection of our E-Books up on the site.
Our Book of the Week is a good complement to Raw Dog Food and has been around just as long: Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats - The Ultimate Diet by Kymythy Schultze. This is one of the most user friendly books to getting your dog or cat on a natural diet. Through March 31, available at a 20% discount at $7.16.
Another notable new book this week is a "second" book for author Dr. Nick Trout: Love is the Best Medicine (we also carry his first book entitled Tell Me Where it Hurts.) An honest and riveting story of love, loss, and redemption as experienced in the author's veterinary practice.
Our product feature this week is the Treat Bag Plus. In 9 stylish colors, these bags have one of the most convenient closing methods we've seen yet! The improved design has a strong magnetic closure for easy, one-handed operation. Three ways to carry the important training treats - with the removable waist belt, the belt clip, or the Velcro webbing loop. Lots of style, color and function for one great price.
Newest books & products:
- Dog Casino - Interactive Game. An exciting and activating game for you and your dog to enjoy together. (Easy to clean.) The dog looks for treats by pulling out the flaps in different directions. In each flap there is a compartment where the treat can be hidden. Increase the degree of difficulty by locking the flaps using the bone-shaped pegs on top.
- Animal Manifesto - Six Reasons for Expanding Our Compassion Footprint by Marc Bekoff. Bekoff demonstrates that animals experience a rich range of emotions, including empathy and compassion, and that they clearly know right from wrong. Driven by moral imperatives and pressing environmental realities, Bekoff offers six compelling reasons for changing the way we treat animals -- whether they're in factory farms, labs, circuses, or our vanishing wilderness. The result is a well-researched, informative guide that will change animal and human lives for the better.
