Weekly Update from Dogwise: Chill Out Fido!

Dear Dogwise Customer,

Dogwise Publishing is pleased to announce the release of Chill Out Fido! How To Calm Your Dog by Nan Arthur. Its a fact of life that many dogs get excited (or wild, or rambunctious - fill in the blank) at various times in the presence of certain stimuli. Think about how great it would be if your dog could handle such situations more calmly - like when you get the leash out, when the doorbell rings, when strangers approach, when out for a walk. However long the list is for your particular dog, the key to achieving a calm dog when and where you want it is to teach him a few basic skills and then reward him for exhibiting calm behavior - and to make sure you are not inadvertently rewarding him for being wild. Chill Out Fido! tackles this problem in two parts. First is to review why dogs can get wild and crazy - and the list is long and interrelated ranging from training issues, breed factors, lack of (or too much!) exercise, even diet. The second half of the book focuses on how to apply positive training techniques to build certain key skills (name recognition, eye contact, relax on a mat) which can then be used to deal with specific situations and environmental triggers that cause dogs to get wild. So if you are having trouble getting your dog to calm down - no matter what causes it - this book will provide you with the knowledge and training skills to get your dog to chill out!

Our book of the week beginning today is the new, revised edition of Scaredy Dog! by Ali Brown. As Ali explains, she has clarified and updated much of the content and added new photos and new examples to more closely reflect her training methods five years after the original book came out. Scaredy Dog! is one of our best selling books on dealing with "reactive" dogs, dogs that tend to bark and lunge at people and other dogs, usually due to fear. You will learn why a dog is "reactive" and how to help reshape his behavior and at the same time build your relationship with your dog. Get your copy for just $14.96, a 25% savings off the normal list price of this book from now through May 20th.

We always like it when we can make our customers happy. Apparently more and more of you are finding out just how great the Dogwise Forums are as a place to communicate with, pose questions to, and interact with other dog enthusiasts. Check out this thread which some nice customer started - and many people responded to - about how the forums are one of the best places on the web to interact and get information.

Thanks from all of us at Dogwise.
