Dear Dogwise Customer,

The recent pet/dog food scare has reignited an interest among our customers in alternatives to traditional dog food. While natural and raw food alternatives have become well established over the past 10 years, we are being asked by customers for help in navigating through the available literature so they make the right choice. We generally group these books into two types. First are books that the provide evidence and the rationale for feeding a raw/alternative diet. These are books that make sense for someone who wants to understand why it works and compare it to more traditional types of dog food - in other words you want to be convinced. Included in this category are:

Optimal Nutrition by Monica Segal.
Raw Meaty Bones by Tom Lonsdale.
Give Your Dog a Bone by Ian Billinghurst.

The second grouping would be those books for people who are already convinced but need help with ideas for recipes, how to manage a raw food diet (it does take some planning!), and acquiring the raw (no pun intended) materials. These would include:

Raw Dog Food by Carina MacDonald.
Work Wonders by Tom Lonsdale.

And don't forget we carry Steve's Real Food for Dogs, freeze dried raw food made with both meat and vegetables. This a great alternative for when you are too busy to prepare food yourself or traveling.
