Weekly Update: Dogwise Shelter Scholarship Program

Dear Dogwise Customer,

Dogwise is pleased to announce the Dogwise Shelter Scholarship Program for the Association of Professional Dog Trainers Conference coming up in October in Hartford, Ct. This scholarship will allow selected staff and volunteers of shelter and rescue programs to attend the APDT Annual Conference by covering registration fees for four full days at the conference. For eligibility rules and application details please visit the APDT website here. Whether you are lucky enough to qualify for the scholarship or not, attendees will find this conference extremely valuable with speakers including Linda Case, Sue Sternberg, Emma Parsons and Ray Coppinger, a selection of their books shown to the right.

Our product feature this week is the Thundershirt Calming Cap. These are a wonderful tool for easing a dog's anxiety in high-stress situations. The calming cap reduces visual stimuli and helps dogs to remain comfortable, overcome fearfulness and increase their confidence. The single-panel sheet fabric window does not blind dogs, but simply filters their view. Soft fabric and elastic fit provide maximum comfort. Two adjustable straps allow for easy on/off use and they come in three sizes.

We also just got in our new line of treats from Land of Oz Meats, the same company that has been bringing you Buffalo Bites. The two new flavors are Toto's Best Chicken Bites 4 oz and Toto's Best Elk Bites 4 oz. These are approved by our dogs on staff!

Newest books & products:

  • Domestic Dog Cognition and Behavior: The Scientific Study of Canis Familiaris by Alexandra Horowitz. This book highlights the state of the field in the new, provocative line of research into the cognition and behavior of the domestic dog. Eleven chapters from leading researchers describe innovative methods from comparative psychology, ethology, and behavioral biology, which are combined to create a more comprehensive picture of the behavior of Canis familiaris than ever before. Introductory price of $149.95.
  • Benes Bungee Ball Tug by Clean Run Productions LLC. Bene's Bungee Ball Tug is 21" long and designed for ball-loving dogs that also like to tug. Not only is an excellent toy for tugging, it's a great fetch toy and you can throw it very accurately in training.
  • Nosework Scent Discrimination DVD by Anne Lill Kvam & Turid Rugaas. Nosework is the only activity that allows the dog to live his instincts and use natural abilities in such an enjoyable way for both himself and his human companion; this helps the dog to find balance and self-confidence and to develop a relationship of serene cooperation with his owner who will discover a new understanding of his dog and of it's singular capabilities.
