We have a real "smorgasbord" of new things to tell you about this week, about as varied as it ever gets. For those of you who work with or in shelters, Shelter Medicine for Veterinarians and Staff might prove to be a valuable resource. This book is a collection of scholarly articles and while most of the book does focus on health issues, there is a section on "Shelter and Community Programs" that contains behavioral information featuring such authors as Pam Reid (Excel-erated Learning).

Dog massage continues to of interest to many of our customers, not only for those who are learning to be practitioners but also for those of you who just want to treat their own dogs to the benefits of massage. Good Dog Massage is a new DVD that focuses on both sport and maintenance techniques. Features Eileen Newsome, reasonably priced at $24.95.

Many of you may have read Steinbeck's wonderful Travels With Charley, a tale of a man and his poodle. Well now there is Travels With Macy by Bruce Fogle, a noted author of many books including The Dog's Mind. This is the story of Bruce and Macy's (a Golden Retriever) travels around North America in an old motorhome. Good summer beach reading.

Lastly is a good book for what we call "visual learners," those who do better with illustrations than the written word. Maran's Illustrated Dog Training contains hundreds of color photos helping to illustrate good dog training and behavior techniques. A nice book for beginners and younger people as well.
