Some of you long-time customers might remember the catalogs we used to produce and mail prior to the Internet age. What a lot of work and hassle they were! Anyhow, we have a few of our more successful catalogs hanging on a wall in our warehouse and the Spring 1997 edition is one that always jumps out since it featured four books that really were ground breakers in their respective fields and all remain very good sellers today. The "big four" were:
The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson. Nine years later, this book
is still probably the most higly recommended book we carry in the
area of canine behavior and the relationships between people and dogs.
Excel-erated Learning by Pam Reid. The first book that brought the
concepts of modern learning theory as it relates to dogs in an
understandable fashion to dog trainers and owners.
Give Your Dog a Bone by Ian Billinghurst. We kept hearing from
customers about this Australian vet who had the crazy idea that a
raw food diet works best for dogs. Little did we know that this
revolutionary idea many years later would be very widely accepted by
owners looking for the best nutrition option for their dogs.
How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks by Ian Dunbar. Actually the
genesis for this book goes back even farther than 1997 with the
original Sirius Puppy Training video upon which the book is based.
Ian Dunbar is the godfather of the modern pet dog training
profession and with this video and book brought modern, positive and
humane training methods to the mass market.
