Dogwise Publishing is very pleased to announce the publication of When Pigs Fly! Training Success With Impossible Dogs by Jane Killion. This book has been in the works for well over a year. Jane originally proposed to us to write about training "difficult" breeds to compete in agility based on the success she has had with her Bull Terriers. While we loved the idea, we realized that there was not a good book in print on how to train breeds of dogs that traditionally have been viewed as hard to train - so why not expand the concept so that anyone who has a breed of dog that does not always hang on your every word (i.e., not a Border Collie or Golden Retriever!) can learn effective methods of training their dogs. Thus was born what Jane calls the "Pigs Fly method" of dog training, a system of training that keys in on making your dog operant - willing to try out behaviors in exchange for rewards instead of just ignoring you. Unlike some training methods, most of the work you will do (see the table of contents) with your dog  involves learning about the nature of the Pigs Fly kind of dog, what your dog is willing to work for (food, play), how to get him to pay attention to you, and how to shape his behaviors once he realizes there is something in it for him. Once you have that part down, teaching behaviors and solving behavior problems is not all that tough. We think this book will be real life-saver for anyone struggling with a dog that they are convinced is just not trainable. And one more thing - even if you have an "easy to train" dog, the Pigs Fly system is still the way to go!
