Weekly Update from Dogwise: A Good Day for a Do Over

Dear Dogwise Customer,

Dogwise Publishing is pleased to announce the arrival of Pat Miller's newest book Do Over Dogs - Give Your Dog a Second Chance for a First Class Life. Those of you who are familiar with Pat's books and magazine articles know that she has devoted much of her life's work to spreading the word about positive training methods for dog owners and working with and for shelters to insure that they can successfully fulfill their mission to rehabilitate and find new owners for dogs who end up in their care. Do Over Dogs is easily the most comprehensive book ever written on the subject of why dogs end up in the shelter and/or rescue world and how someone interested in adopting a "do-over" dog can maximize their chances for a successful adoption and a happy long life together. As Pat explains, however, this is not always an easy task and you may have to live with behaviors (as she admits she has with some of her adopted dogs) that you'd rather not have in a dog. And how does one maximize their chances for success? In a number of ways including:

  • Understanding why dogs are given up on and the most common types of behavior problems you might face.
  • Learning how to do an assessment of a dog before you adopt it.
  • Taking advantage of the "honeymoon period" where you have the best opportunity to teach your dog new behaviors.
  • And, of course, a thorough overview of modern positive training and management techniques.
Taking on a Do Over dog and making it work for both you and your dog truly is an accomplishment and we think this book will be a standard reference book for years to come on the subject.

In celebration of the arrival of Pat Miller's newest book, we are making her first book - Positive Perspectives - our Book of the Week from now until July 21 - 25% off, only $15.96. Regardless of what kind of dog you have - from a potential purebred champion to a Do Over, Positive Perspectives is one of the best overall basic training books you can buy to give yourself the tools to teach your dogs all the key behaviors he needs to learn.

Our product feature this week is the new line we are carrying from Dog Is Good. We are carrying their greeting cards and stickers which we found to be fun products to add to our inventory. The tasteful designs, witty notations and attractive colors let others know that we/you are truly "dog people" - best of breed!

Newest books & products:

  • A Dogs Purpose - A Novel For Humans by Bruce Cameron. Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, "A Dog's Purpose" is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.
  • Nan Arthurs Chill Out Fido Seminar DVD by Nan Arthur. Getting your dog to calm down and relax is one of the most common challenges pet parents face. This presentation will help you first identify the factors that cause this kind of behavior in dogs, then it provides you with eleven key training exercises to teach your dog how to calm down, pay attention to you, relax, and respond to every day situations with confidence and composure.

Thanks from all of us at Dogwise.
