Weekly Update from Dogwise: Second Call for APDT Conference in San Diego |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
Doesn't 70 degrees and no humidity sound pretty good about now? Even in the middle of October when San Diego tends to have some of the nicest weather of the year? And, weather issues aside, the APDT Educational Conference is a must do at least once for every trainer who wants to learn more about their craft and have a chance to network with fellow trainers and some of the leading experts in the field of pet dog training. Here are some more of the featured speakers who are scheduled to appear this year along with some of the books that they have written:
- Suzanne Clothier. While well known for a number of training and behavioral books, her Clothier Natural Jumping Method has been one of the leading books on the topic for more than a decade and is our Book of the Week through August 10th marked down 20% to $7.96.
- Sophia Yin. Sophia has a brand new puppy book called Perfect Puppy in 7 Days which many trainers may want to recommend to clients. Right now we have the book available in E-Book format, we expect the paperback version in stock by late August.
- Joshua Leeds. Joshua is the co-author with Susan Wagner of Through a Dog's Ear, one of our top sellers at the APDT conference a couple of years ago when Joshua was also a speaker.
- Nicole Wilde. Nicole is one of the most prolific authors in the world of dogs with an incredible breadth of topics and interests. Her most recent book, available in both paperback and E-Book formats is Don't Leave Me which focuses on the always difficult subject of separation anxiety.
- Beth Duman. Beth is a first time speaker/author whose book entitled The Evolution of Charlie Darwin has just come into stock. This is a very well written overview of positive training techniques, another good title to recommend to your clients who are just getting started in dogs.
- Grey Stafford. Grey is author of Zoomility (an appropriate choice given the presence of one of the world's finest zoos in San Diego), a book about using positive reinforcement in zoo settings.
The slow boat from China finally arrived and we now have our second line of 2012 Breed Calendars from Pet Prints in stock. So now for those of you who like to buy two different calendars for your breed (think home and office!) there are two choices for most breeds now available.
Newest books & products:
- Brute Strength (Dog Lover's Mysteries) by Susan Conant. When Dog's Life columnist Holly Winter rejects applicants who want to adopt homeless dogs, she makes a lot of enemies. In dogs Holly trusts, and the dogs she trusts most are her beloved malamutes, Rowdy, Kimi and Sammy. But when Holly's own life is threatened, can the brute strength of her dogs protect her?
- Follow My Lead - What Training My Dogs Taught Me About Life, Love and Happiness by Carol Quinn. It all begins when the author--unhappy with her failing love affair, her career, and even herself--decides to enroll her two Rhodesian ridgebacks into dog agility training. She's hoping to both find a hobby and straighten out her unruly pets, but she soon discovers that dog agility demands more from her than she ever expected. What follows is a life-changing experience: one that teaches her not only about her dogs but also about herself.
- Siberian Husky - Doglife - Lifelong Care For Your Dog by Donna Beckman. Ranked #22 by the AKC, the Siberian Husky is part of the Working Group and is best known for its incredible endurance and drive. Originally bred as sled dogs, these resilient canines are extremely active and have an overwhelming desire to run. In addition to breed-specific care and training advice, find out how their lively demeanor and stable temperament make them a favorite family companion.
