Weekly Update: Older Favorites Vol. 3

Dear Dogwise Customer,

This will be the last in this series of our older favorites, but we feel the need to apologize to all the authors who could have had books mentioned - we could go on doing this for weeks and mention equally important books. Here are four more:

  • Give Your Dog a Bone by Ian Billinghurst, is a runaway best seller based on the concept that a natural, raw food-based diet is best for your dog. Learn how to feed your dog(s) for maximum health, low cost and low environmental impact using raw, whole foods. 20% off until September 3rd.Der Schutzhund - The Training of Working Dogs in Protection Work by Helmut Raiser. If someone had said at the time we first decided to carry this book almost twenty years ago that it would still be a very strong seller we probably would have offered to sell them a bridge to nowhere. Among people who need dogs trained in protection work, this book has become required reading. Now available in Ebook form as well. Physical copy 20% off until September 3rd. Therapy Dogs 2nd ed by Kathy Diamond Davis. While we admit to some bias in that this book really got us on track as publishers, Kathy's book remains one of the best if you want to train a dog to do therapy work in a variety of settings. 20% off until September 3rd.
  • The Culture Clash 2nd ed by Jean Donaldson. Jean's classic behavior and training book is now almost 20 years old. And if you asked us "which five books do I need if I want to be able to train a dog," this book would certainly still be on that short list. While its hard to believe there are dog people out there who have not read this book yet, we know there are still some who have not....... 20% off until September 3rd.

Our featured product line this week is the two Pet First Aid Refrigerator Magnet Books. These are indispensable how-to for pet owners, this reference illustrates how to handle animals in critical situations. Ceasing choking, dressing wounds, treating shock, applying CPR, and much more are reviewed in detail, enabling any animal lover to confidently recognize and address dire circumstances.

Newest books & products:

  • Soldiers in Fur and Feathers: The Animals That Served in World War I - Allied Forces by Susan Bulanda. Dodging bullets, leaping over water-filled shell holes and wading through belly deep mud, faithful messenger dogs ran as fast as they could to deliver lifesaving messages. At the same time, miles away, a small determined pigeon flew high, out of the range of German snipers who wanted to prevent her from delivering important statistics to headquarters. From mascots to donkeys, camels, and pigeons, these animals provided life-saving support as well as an emotional bond that was truly unique.
  • Do As I Do: Using Social Learning to Train Dogs Book (with Instructional DVD) by Claudia Fugazza. Recent research suggests that dogs can engage in social learning which includes the ability to observe the actions of other dogs and imitate them to learn new behaviors. This natural skill can be used to teach dogs new behaviors using the Do As I Do protocol presented in this book-DVD combination. The “Do As I Do” method is particularly useful in working with service dogs and canine athletes who must masters skills such as ringing a bell, jumping over a hurdle, spinning and dozens more. DVD has English subtitles.
  • Controlled Aggression: In Theory & Practice by Jerry Bradshaw. K9 Training manual for professional police and protection trainers. This book covers K9 selection, drive development, human focused aggression, out on command redirects and call offs. Appendices cover European dog sports and attentive heeling for police K9 and sport competition.
