First is a new DVD featuring several classic seminars (some of which were available years ago in VHS format) by the noted animal trainer Ted Turner. Entitled The Classics of Training, it features 5 hours of Ted Turner on topics ranging from shaping to aggression and training fundamentals. Ted Turner is viewed as sort of a guru to many dog trainers, helping to bring operant conditioning concepts that were first used with marine mammals to the world of dogs. If you were not aware, we now offer short clips of many of more popular DVDs on Dogwise.com. For those of you who do behavior consulting or training in family settings, Lynn Hoover's The Family in Dog Behavior Consulting should be on your reading list. As more trainers are recognizing, you can be a great dog trainer but if there are things going on in the family that owns the dogs you might not be successful in helping the dog if you cannot diagnose what is happening within the family unit. Lynn's experience as a family therapist will give you the tools to better understand the human environment and the challenges that are impacting the dog you are trying to help.

Looking for something a little lighter? Kicked, Bitten and Scratched by Amy Sutherland follows a group of students at California's Moorpark Community College which houses an Exotic Animal Training and Management program. While Amy is not a trainer herself, she is a perceptive observer of the students as they proceed through the program. Dog trainers should find this a very interesting and informative read.
