Weekly Update from Dogwise: A Surprise No More

Dear Dogwise Customer,

One of the big surprise best sellers this past year has been Alexandra Horowitz's Inside of a Dog - What Dogs See, Smell, and Know. We new very little about this author and book before it arrived at our warehouse and frankly are always a bit skeptical whenever we get a book on dog behavior from a new author. However, once we read it and given the response of our customers, we new this was a special book. The book has been so successful that Alexandra is going to be the Keynote Speaker at the APDT Conference next month in Atlanta and her book is now available in paperback, always a sign of strong demand. We are planning on bringing lots of them with us to Atlanta, so we have plenty in stock - and we also have about 25 hardbacks left which we are now offering at the paperback price.

If this subject of what is going on inside the head of your dog (seems like nothing sometimes huh?) here are a couple other books you may want to check out:
  • How Dogs Think by Stanley Coren. A very readable yet insightful book on how the world looks to a dog.
  • Dog's Mind by Bruce Fogle. One of the first books on this subject, approaches the subject from more of an evolutionary point of view.
  • The Other End of the Leash by Trish McConnell. The great thing about this book is that it also explains what is going on in the mind of the primate at the other end of the leash as well as the dog. Trish is also going to speaking on Thursday morning at the APDT conference "Cognition and Emotion in Dog Behavior." The Other End of the Leash is our Book of the Week (again!) through September 29th at 20% off, only $12.80.

32 and counting. That is the current number of E-Books from Dogwise publishing that are now available for purchase. Click here to see our ever expanding list.

Our product pick this week is a healthy, all natural line of treats that dogs love! Wildside products come in Salmon (freeze-dried, crunchy, or oil), Lamb (semi-soft or crunchy), and Kangaroo. Everything is grain free and they're great for training treats or bait.

Newest books & products:

  • Photoshop Brushes & Creative Tools - Cats & Dogs by Alan Weller. Specially created for use with Photoshop CS-CS4 and Photoshop Elements, this easy-to-use resource helps designers, crafters, scrapbookers and "dog people" construct rich, textured, professional-looking compositions, flyers, etc.
  • Long Jump DVD - A Simple Start-to-Finish Training Plan by Mary Ellen Barry. With Mary Ellen Barry's clever and simple training program, you'll teach your dog there is a correct entry and exit for the long jump. With this understanding, you will be able to cue turns and extension lines, and your dog can be responsible for straightening his approach when necessary and for completing the entire obstacle even if there's a turn afterward.
  • Crossing the Lion by Cynthia Baxter. In this newest addition to her long list of mystery titles, Veterinarian Jessica Popper is still basking in newlywedded bliss when neighbors Betty and Winston beg her to investigate the suspicious death of Linus Merrywood, king of the corporate jungle. On stormy Solitude Island, the Merrywoods have enjoyed the lion's share of wealth for generations. But from the suspects to the surroundings, Jess feels as if she's walked straight into an old-fashioned game of Clue--except here the stakes are life and death.
