One of the focuses at the upcoming APDT Educational Conference next month is, perhaps surprisingly, clicker training! Surprising in that clicker training has now been around for many years, there have been many books written and DVDs recorded on the subject, and lots of trainers are now true believers. However, with new trainers and new dog enthusiasts, what some would think perhaps is old hat is a new subject and a whole new set of skills to master. If that describes you, check out our list of clicker training material here.
For those of you who really want to master your clicking training skills, try them out on chickens! Terry Ryan's new seminar DVD - Poultry in Motion, Clicker Training Chickens - is now in stock and is the subject of what Terry will be speaking on at the APDT conference in Oakland. If you can learn to clicker train a chicken (or even just watch how it is done), your dog training skills will improve! For you Terry Ryan fans, we are in the final editing stage here at Dogwise Publishing on a new book by Terry! That's all we want to say right now (more info will be available at the APDT conference) because we firmly believe in the concept of not counting our chickens before they hatch when it comes to new books!
Staying on the clicker training theme, here are some suggestions for those of you who want to brush up on your skills or learn new ones:
- Quick Clicks by Mandy Book and Cheryl Smith. This is our Book of
the Week, marked down to $14.96 for the next seven days. Looking
for ideas to improve your clicker skills? This fun book lays out
detailed instructions for 40 fast and fun behaviors to train with
a clicker.
- Click & Easy by Miriam Fields-Babineau. Know nothing about
clicker training but want to get started? This is real nice book
to help you get started.
- The Clicked Retriever by Lana Mitchell. Want to teach a solid
retrieve using a clicker? This is the book for you.
- Click for Joy by Melissa Alexander. One of the best overall
clicker training book in a question and answer format.
Our product feature this week is Quiet Spot Pet Tag Silencer & Pouch. Quiet Spot stops the noise and keeps the information from wearing off your dog's ID tags, so you don't need to buy new tags every year. It also eliminates unsightly "Tag Tarnish" on the necks of white or light-colored breeds.
Reminder - Nan Arthur, author of Chill Out Fido! is currently on the Dogwise Forums to discuss and answer questions about her best sellling book.
