Weekly Update from Dogwise: A Visit With Pagey

Dear Dogwise Customer,

One of the great things about being in the publishing business is all the very talented authors we get to meet and work with. So it was with great anticipation that we (Larry and Charlene Woodward from Dogwise Publishing) took off last week to visit Rachel Page Elliott to help kick off the introduction of her new book: From Hoofbeats to Dogsteps - A Life of Listening to and Learning from Animals. Needless to say, we were incredibly impressed by this multi-talented woman, her family and their lovely home.

Now keep in mind that Pagey is 95 years old - and as you can see from the above photo (taken with Larry and Charlene) - you should be so lucky to look that good at that age! Bright, engaged, and with a wonderful wit, Pagey was the perfect hostess as she took us on a tour of her wonderful colonial-era home (River Road Farm shown above) including the agility runs, her horse barn, and her office filled with such things as dog skeletons, prize-winning puzzles that she makes, and notes from her ground-breaking research on canine gait and structure that resulted in her best selling book Dogsteps: A New Look. And there must be something in the water back there in Massachusetts as we were equally impressed with her three very talented children - Liz, Ruth, and David - each as successful in their chosen fields as their mother is in hers.

The coming out party for the book was held at the Golden Retriever Nationals in Warwick, Rhode Island. Since Pagey was a leader in establishing the Golden as a recognized breed in the US decades ago, it was no surprise that she has a lot of fans among Golden fanciers. But we were totally unprepared for the reception she received - something more like royalty or a rock star would get! Fans were lined up for hours to have Pagey autograph her book (and even puzzles!), and then when we went to take a dinner break, everyone in the restaurant stood up and gave her a standing ovation as she entered. Wow!

The family has let us know that Pagey would welcome any of her "fans" to drop her a line - she enjoys hearing from all dog lovers. Her address is:

Rachel Page Elliott
291 River Road
Carlisle, MA 01741

Thanks from all of us at Dogwise.
