Weekly Update from Dogwise: New Tracking and SAR Books
|
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
One area of interest among our customers that never seems to wane is the subject of Tracking and Search and Rescue. We suspect its because its fun, it can be useful (and save lives), it provides good exercise for both dog and handler, and its a great way to build a strong partnership with your dog. And fortunately, author/experts continue to produce good and useful new books on these subjects. Here are some relatively new ones you may not have heard about:
- Smellorama! Nose Games for Dogs by Viviane Thelby. Lots of nose work ideas for you to try out with your dog to keep your training fun and varied.
- Taking the Next Step - Dog Tracking Workbook by Mary Thompson. Over 30 sample tracks, presented in full detail, for you to try with your dog. Includes worksheets to keep records of your progress.
- Ready! Training the Search and Rescue Dog by Susan Bulanda. An updated second edition of our best selling SAR training book over the years. This is probably the best book to start with if you are considering going into this challenging field.
- Scent of the Missing by Susannah Charleson. We mentioned above how tracking and SAR work can build a strong partnership with your dog. Well in this book you can read how that developed for the author and her Golden Retriever named Puzzle.
We have been promoting the upcoming APDT Conference that starts in two weeks in Atlanta as a great way to learn from the expert speakers. And while that is true, many conference attendees say that the chance to mingle and swap stories and tips with their fellow trainers provides the most benefit. If you can't attend the conference, one way to get the benefit of advise from your fellow trainers is to get the book Top Tips from Top Trainers, a book filled with hundreds (1001 to be exact) of tips and advice from APDT members. Not quite like being there in person, but close! Top Tips is our Book of the Week through October 13th, 20% off the regular price at $15.96.
Forums Update! For those many of you who have purchased Devon O'Branagan's books Glory - The Legend Begins and Red Hot Property, she is currently on the Dogwise Forums ready to chat and take your questions.
Our product feature this week is the Pogo Plush- Large & Pogo Plush - Small. The patent-pending design provides a unique bounce-back action that dogs prefer over traditional stuffed plush toys. They are stuffing free, so there's no mess if your dog likes to destroy plush toys. The toys are built with inner rubber scaffolding and free-floating squeakers that will give your dog hours of fun. Recommended by The Whole Dog Journal!
Newest books & products:
- Dogs Life Chicken Jerky Treats by Dogs Life. Pearl goes ga-ga for these tasty morsels. Grain-Free: We only use pure cuts of all-white meat chicken (NO fillers such as rice flour, oat flour, or water) - 3oz net weight package

- Elvis and the Grateful Dead- A Southern Cousins Mystert by Peggy Webb. In the second work in Webb's mystery series, Callie Valentine and her incomparable Basset hound, Elvis, must uncover a murderer who's leaving residents of the King's hometown all shook up.
