Weekly Update from Dogwise: "Good Reads" Part 1
|
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
What makes a book a "Good Read" in the world of dog enthusiasts? Well everyone, of course, will have a different opinion - even the most detailed training manual can be a good read if it helps you train or understand your dog better. Here is how we characterize a good read: (1) a book with solid information about dogs; (2) a book that can be enjoyed and understood by both dog enthusiasts and more casual dog folk; (3) a book that is well written, both informative and entertaining; and (4) a book that makes a great gift and can turn a client or casual dog owner into "one of us" - a dog enthusiast.
Here are are just a few of the books we think fit the bill:
- Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz. We never tire of recommending this fascinating look at dog behavior.
- Do Dogs Dream? by Stanley Coren. Stanley Coren has now written several books - all good reads - on dog behavior that are easy to read but full of good information.
- Between Dog and Wolf by Jessica Addams and Andrew Miller. One of the newer books on our list, a little more challenging to read in parts, but focusing in on a subject that many people find fascinating - all aspects of the relationship between wolves and dogs. This is our Book of the Week, 25% off through October 24th at only $18.71.
- Dogs - A New Understanding of Canine Origin, Behavior, and Evolution by Raymond and Lorna Coppinger. One of our favorite books, a fascinating look at how the domestic dog evolved from the wolf.
- The Other End of the Leash - Why We Do What We Do Around Dogs by Trish McConnell. Considered by many experts to be one of the very best look at how dogs and people interact (and should interact). Very well written, you don't need to be a dog expert to benefit from it - just like all of Trish's other fine books.
We've added more ebooks to our growing selection:
EBOOK: The Human Half of Dog Training - Collaborating with Clients to Get Results by Risë VanFleet
EBOOK: Training the Disaster Search Dog by Shirley Hammond
EBOOK: Dog Detectives - Train Your Dog to Find Lost Pets by Kat Albrecht
