Weekly Update from Dogwise: Dogwise Health Books |
|
Dear Dogwise Customer,
While Dogwise Publishing has focused primarily on training books, we are quite proud of the health related books we have published. As with our training projects, we have tried to bring to market cutting edge health books that major publishers are not likely to undertake given that these are admittedly subjects of interest limited to real dog enthusiasts like you who are willing to go the extra mile for your pets. Here is a sampling of some of the more popular books:
- The Healthy Way to Stretch Your Dog - A Physical Therapy Approach by Sasha and Ashley Foster. This award-winning book describes the proper way to stretch your dog to benefit both overall health and performance. It is very detailed with step by step instructions and dozens of photographs. You know how important stretching is for people, now you can help your dog in the same way.
- The Canine Thyroid Epidemic - Answers You Need for Your Dog by Jean Dodds and Diana Laverdure. Thyroid problems can manifest themselves in a variety of ways, not only physically but behaviorally. Unfortunately, most dog owners (and many vets!) are not aware of the signs and signals that may indicate thyroid problems. The good news is thyroid problems are usually treatable once they are documented by the right kind of lab tests. Every dog owner should be aware of this issue given that thyroid problems are growing so prevalent.
- Unlocking the Canine Ancestral Diet - Healthier Dog Food the ABC Way by Steve Brown. Noted canine nutritionist Steve Brown provides readers with the understanding, tools and diet plans to improve what you feed your dog. Based somewhat on the notion popular in human diets ("If a cave man could eat it..."), Steve explores what dogs likely ate before domestication and suggests how you can use this knowledge to either improve the commercial food you currently use or to create your own homemade food.
- Puppy Intensive Care by Myra Savant Harris. One of three books we have worked on with Myra, PIC focuses in on the critical period of labor and the first few days of a pup's life. Myra is literally the guru/go-to support person for hundreds of breeders around the world, well known for her knowledge based on years of working as a nurse and her ability to use common sense and creativity to help people solve the many problems which can arise during this critical time.
- Canine Massage - A Complete Reference Manual, 2nd Ed. by Jean-Pierre Hourdebaigt. This book represents our first foray into health books as a publisher and still remains a strong seller and is generally regarded as the most complete book on the subject. The benefits of massage for dogs are now widely accepted and this book provides both the layperson and the professional a detailed guide. Canine Massage is our Book of the Week through November 2nd at a 25% discount, only $17.21.
