As some of you may have experienced, gremlins were messing with our web server off and on this past week and so our site was down for several periods of time. Unfortunately this is sort of a fact of life for e-commerce sites although we are working diligently with our tech providers to insure this does not happen often. If you find when you log on to Dogwise.com that you get some sort of error message or the site does not load, usually if you try again in an hour or so it will be back up. If not, you can always call in an order or leave us a message (if after hours) on our toll free number 800-776-2665. Or send us an email. We apologize if you were impacted by the site being down recently.

We have not talked about the Dogwise Forums for quite awhile. Let us assure you that they are alive and well with nearly 3000 registered users discussing and trading information on dozens of topics. Its a great place to pose a question or concern and then sit back and get lots of answers and opinions (we all know that dog people have them!!). Currently there are some very interesting discussions going on about canine adolescence, fear of nail trimming, and multiple dog households. Join the discussions!

Three relatively new health related books we want to mention this week:

• The Natural Vet's guide to Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs by Shawn Messonnier. Maybe not what you what you want to think about around the holidays, but this is a very detailed and well researched book on a topic that unfortunately too many dog owners have to face.

• Speaking for Spot by Nancy Kay. Most of us have learned for our own health care needs that you need to advocate for yourself when dealing with the medical community. The same thing applies with your dogs and vets - you need to be a well informed advocate. Arm yourself with what you need to know for your dog's health and well-being.

• Not Fit for a Dog! The Truth About Manufactured Dog and Cat Food by Michael W. Fox, Elizabeth Hodgkins, and Marion Smart. Another in the recent spate of books to help you educate yourself on the pros and cons of traditional pet food.

Our non-book featured products (ones that fit in a stocking) this week are Dog Agility Coiled Leash Tabs, mini-leashes that are very popular for agility competitors. It stays attached to your dog's collar while he runs the course, then stretches out a couple feet when you need to grab it for control.

One last note. While the official "deadline" for ground shipments to arrive by Christmas is today, our experience is that orders shipped ground by December 15th will probably arrive by the 24th. So you are likely safe at least through this coming weekend - just don't be your life on it! Since we are located near the West Coast, keep in mind that the further east you are the longer the delivery will take. We do offer expedited shipping methods for you procrastinators.
