At this time of year, many of us doggie kind of people make resolutions - winning an agility competition, training a dog for a CGC certification, maybe even to just train our dogs to stop barking at the mailman! We'd like to suggest that maybe this is the year you look into the therapy and service/assistance dog fields and see if there is something you and your dog(s) can do for other folks.
It is now almost common knowledge that dogs can have incredibly powerful and beneficial impacts on a wide variety of people who are in need of certain kinds of therapy or assistance. For example, the simple presence of a well behaved dog can help a person suffering from anxiety regain focus and calm down. A trained assistance dog can turn a light switch on or provide support for someone unable to stand on his own.
