Expanded Description:

In our view, this set of four DVDs, featuring Jane and a number of prominent experts (including Jean Donaldson and Carmen Battaglia among others), is one of the most important works to come out in recent years and is a must see for anyone who breeds dogs, or comes to own a young puppy, or who works with puppies on a professional basis. Puppy Culture explores in detail the critical early periods of development that each puppy goes through as well as what you can do to increase your odds of raising a happy, socially successful, and trainable dog. Most dog enthusiasts are aware of at least some of the recommended "socialization" activities discussed in many books. However, being able to see it in action along with the commentary of Jane and other experts makes it much more meaningful along with the fact that you not only learn what you should do but why you should do it.

If you’re even thinking of breeding or buying a puppy, Puppy Culture is for you -

Fascinating insight, deep wisdom and practical instruction for breeders, puppy owners, or anyone else who touches puppies We’ve assembled a team of leading veterinarians, behaviorists, and breeders to follow a litter of puppies as they pass through critical development periods in their first 12 weeks of life. You’ll receive step-by-step instructions and helpful advice for what breeders and puppy owners should do at every critical juncture in order to raise well-socialized puppies with the fundamental skills needed to take their place in our homes and in our hearts.

The Information You Need, When You Need It. From early neurological stimulation, to emotional resiliency exercise, to leash walking, potty training, and problem prevention, Puppy Culture is your complete guide! Puppy Culture’s encyclopedic material is organized into 3 to 10 minutes sections on a logical, week-by-week timeline, and comes with an easy-to-follow index so you can find what you want, when you want it.

The Proof Is In The Puppies. We dispel common myths and mistakes in puppy rearing, and we show you what really works. We used one of our own litters in the film and tracked them from whelping box to three years old, so you could see the profound, almost unbelievable results of the Puppy Culture program unfold before your eyes.

You’ll watch it once for fun, and then over and then over and over again as a reference. Puppy Culture’s warm and entertaining format belies it’s practical, instructional content, and deep scientific foundations. Our experts explain the principles behind Puppy Culture’s rearing and socialization protocols, always in an easy to understand and approachable fashion. You’ll come away with a new and clear understanding of puppies and how to raise them into our human world.

What experts are saying about Puppy Culture:
I believe that watching Puppy Culture is one of the most important steps breeders and owners can take to insure their dogs can live well in this world.
Melanie Whitehair, Sandstone Bull Terriers and former rescue chair for the Bull Terrier Club of America

...there has been a real shortage of science-based, best-practices information for anyone caring for a litter of puppies from before birth until they go to their new homes. This DVD collection brings together wonderful information, clearly explained and illustrated...I have to congratulate Jane Killion on a wonderful production that will provide tremendous benefit to dogs and their humans.
Cindy Bennett Martin, Certified Training Partner for the Karen Pryor Academy of Animal Behavior and Training, and a member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants

Puppy Culture is entertaining which completely drew me in and yet, manages to provide a wealth of information and the research to back it up. The professional presentation and wonderful graphics of the package promise a high quality film and indeed, the promise is delivered. It is the quality I would expect from major producers of documentaries and films.
Carolyn Lincoln, DVM, owner of Play To Behave LLC, Veterinary Behavior Counseling and Corresponding secretary for the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior

Not just for breeders, November 10, 2015
Reviewer: Rural 4-H leader
As a resident in a rural community in which town dogs are more commonly viewed as nuisances and out-of-town dogs are viewed as ranch hands, this DVD struck me as a way of educating a community. It's so darn watchable. I have shown clips to my training group at the youth correction facility, other clips to my 4-H dog club, and I'm always asked if they can see more.

But I have even bigger goals: lending it to the two veterinarians in the community to watch so they can refer anyone with a pregnant bitch to the county library to check it out. I feel it can benefit not just breeders and competitors, but all the unknowledgeable dog owners in my county who find themselves with puppies on the way. I could berate them all day and not make a dent. This DVD, however, could act as positive reinforcement! It's fun and engaging and will do more for the future lives of those puppies than my criticism will ever change the situation.

On a personal level, it answered a long-ago puzzle. Thirty years ago, I was a breeder. My first litter was phenomenal, the entire litter earning field championships in US and Canada. I based subsequent breeding decisions on that litter, but although I had better conformation, I never duplicated the athletic ability or temperament of that first litter. Now I understand: the bitch had abandoned them after the first week, and in caring for them, bathing, tube-feeding, peeing and pooping them, we inadvertently did the neurological stimulation and many of the other recommendations Ms. Killion has for the first 12 weeks. It made me wish I could go back in time and see 'what might have been' in those later litters.

It also made me more accepting of what I can and cannot do with rescued dogs that have NOT had a good start, which is my life now. I am more likely now to move straight into a focused program of counter-conditioning (a la Dr. Sophia Yin) instead of hoping the dog will come around.

The Best!, June 15, 2015
Reviewer: Skye/DogEvals
I am stingy with five-star recommendations: Puppy Culture deserves five stars – or more. The wonders of Puppy Culture - everything contentwise, everything visual, everything style-wise, simply everything. Puppy Culture is simply amazing.

Author Jane Killion, with signature pony tail and baseball cap, has done an excellent job – informative in covering best practices for raising puppies from prenatal to 12 weeks, entertaining in that the stars – bull terrier puppies - are, in a word, simply adorable.

Take notes on this four-DVD series. You cannot watch it all at once – so, thank goodness, when your mind tends to slow down after incorporating enough super-material in one setting, you will be rejuvenated by watching the delightful puppies as they grow up before your eyes. I would not be surprised if you watch the DVD at times just for entertainment and to get your puppy-fix! You just want to cuddle them! Or watch them sleep.

Experts featured in Puppy Culture, besides Killion herself, include a veterinarian, a puppy evaluator, the highly respected Jean Donaldson, veterinary behaviorists, a veterinary neurologist, and breeders – virtually a Who’s Who in the Dog World.

How Killion managed to get so many of the very best people in the dog world, I have no idea. Might it be because Killion herself is so talented in dealing with dogs as well as people?

Topics include socialization, early neural stimulation, developmental stages, and puppy training. Yes, training puppies – they soak it all up: you can’t not train a puppy.

Goat’s milk? The Communication Trilogy? Feeding raw? The startle reflex? 50 Lessons in Puppy Living!

Killion wrote the sleeper 2007 book When Pigs Fly: Training Success with Impossible Dogs. Killion is a bull terrier breeder with years of experience. Killion is a dog trainer extraordinaire. Killion is an expert in dog agility circles as well as conformation, rally and obedience. Killion is a gem. Killion is not to be missed! As a matter of fact, I am considering driving four hours just to meet her.

Puppy Culture is more than five hours of video expertise, professionally photographed. It has made this reviewer’s list of Top Ten Dog Books of All Time. Yes, a DVD can be a book, but a book with pictures – moving pictures and a book you listen to AND watch rather than just look at.

Included in the set is a viewing guide with each disc’s titles, subtitles, presenters, and times so you can go directly to the topic you need.

An excellent script comes across as being natural conversation – not too much information, not too little. Short sentences with plenty of visuals appropriate to the words almost like a slow-paced music video but with the visuals melting in to each other at just the right speed so you can also grasp the cuteness of the pups.

Killion knows puppies, heat-seeking milk missiles, and has observed them and their growth and behavior for years. She passes that knowledge on, never giving too much information to absorb.

Well worth it!

Essential tool for Breeders, February 12, 2015
Reviewer: Susan Signor
After watching this DVD I was impressed with the quality and volume of information provided for breeders, puppy owners and potential puppy owners. Well organized with each of the chapters identified with topic and duration of run time to make it easy to find the time to watch. Great ideas for helping a breeder make the best use of time and facility to promote a well-rounded start for their puppies who are destined for life as loved companion dogs. Excellent help for new puppy owners to get their pups off to a great start in life.
